Smoky trip-hop beats meet the cool purity of vocals from Lisa Debenedictis, Ammonite, Artemis, and Lizzi. These are rounded out by some choice atmospherics like "Direction Dub" from Beat Under Control and "Waterfall" by Solar Cycle. The mood of this album is mellow and hushed—these are the kind of tracks that stand out much better on a compilation than on their albums of origin.

[DJ] Cary Norsworthy loves making compilations, and after many years of collecting and assembling mixes -- and promoting independent music to everyone she knows - she's creating some mood-enhancing compilations of Magnatune artists.
Her first entry, "Downtempo Chill," features 14 laid-back Magnatune tracks, each from a different artist. Sometimes dubby, sometimes jazzy, sometimes trip-hoppy, these deep grooves will appeal to any fan of slow, downtempo beats.
An editor of books on digital-music creation, she recently contributed some of her own playlists to "The iPod Playlist Book" from Peachpit Press. While she cites Magnatune as her favorite record label, she also can't resist the following venues for hardcore music acquisition: Amoeba Records (Berkeley, San Francisco), Concerto Records (Amsterdam), Soul Seduction (Vienna), and - for when she can't find that precious album anyplace else -- gemm.com. Enjoy the quest..."
She was drawn to Magnatune nearly two years ago because "the variety and quality of the music is so great, and I'm really impressed with how well they treat their artists. It's fantastic to see musicians getting 50% from every sale - no one else is doing that."
